What Can IF Do For You?
If you don't build your dream. Someone will hire you to build theirs.
-Dhirubhai Ambani
There are few words in the English language that can throw you off your path more than the word IF.
What do I mean by that? I don't know about you, but in my lifetime? IF has interfered with my plans, my path and my progress more times than I can remember. There's a lot of power in it. Sometimes it giveth and sometimes it taketh away. Why? Because IF allows us to dream big and set goals, but it also allows us to make excuses.
Let's take our happiness. Or in this case, unhappiness:
If only I could lose ten pounds.
If only I could meet the right person.
If only I lived somewhere else.
If only I had a different job.
If only I wasn't so unlucky.
Get the picture?. And it can keep us from the things we want to do in our lives. IF is used for ALL the excuses. In this context it takes your power. Why? Because it's the easy way out. You've made IF
the reason for your failure. Like none of these things will ever happen because IF is in the way.
But what IF you flipped the script? There is a place for the IFs. And one place only. Goal setting.
How? By asking the IF questions to figure out what you really want out of life and how you're going to get it. I'm not sure IF you've forgotten, but you were born to be alive. To accomplish the things that you want to accomplish. Look, there will be obstacles along the way, but they don't need to come from you.
When deciding what goals to set on your journey in life...ask yourself:
If I choose to be healthier, what will it add to my life?
If I choose a person to have a relationship with, what would I look for?
If I could live anywhere in the world, where would I live and why?
If I could have any career in the world, what would it be and why?
If I accept that I have the power to create what others call luck, how would my life be changed?
Semantics? Yes! In the first group of IF, the meaning is all about the roadblock and what's impossible. In the second grouping, it's all about what's possible. We're so good at telling ourselves illogical stories aren't we?
It's not enough to use the power of IF to ask yourself the right questions, but it's the right place to start. From there? Ask yourself Why? Why is the goal important. From there? Ask yourself what? What will the goal add to the quality of your life. From there? Ask yourself when? You've got to put a deadline to it or it's only a dream. From there? Ask yourself how? How will you get it done. From there? Determine IF you are willing. Because IF you're not willing to do what it will take to reach your goal? You're going to need a new goal.

So what's the point? Everything you want out of life hinges on how you choose to look at life.
IF you find yourself drifting off the path, connect to your WHY and get right back on it!
you
